UAE Art Scene: How are Private Art Foundations Shaping the Local Art Scene?

Barjeel Art Foundation is an independent, United Arab Emirates-based initiative established to manage, preserve and exhibit the personal art collection of Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi

Karim Sultan is the director and a curator at Barjeel Art Foundation, a collecting philanthropic institution based in the United Arab Emirates He has recently curated exhibitions  such as The Sea Suspended at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and Short Century (co-curated with Suheyla Takesh) at the Sharjah Art Museum, as well as an exhibition highlighting modern and contemporary Arab art at Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris (co-curated with Philippe van Cauteren of SMAK Belgium). His interests are focused around developing fluency with art histories and contemporary approaches to modernism in the Arab region. In addition, Karim is also a practicing and performing artist who works with sound, music, photography, video and installation.
